The Lightsheer Duet laser is used to remove unwanted hair. It emits a beam of light that is absorbed by pigment within the hair follicle, which destroys the growing hair follicle. Multiple procedures are required and are usually performed 4-6 weeks apart. The number of treatments required will depend not only on the hair color, but also on the thickness of hair, the patient’s skin type, and tolerance. More closely spaced treatments will enable one to achieve his/her goal earlier, but will require more treatments.
The Lightsheer Duet has a standard 9x9mm spot size to treat small areas of the body such as the upper lip. Unlike most hair removal lasers, it has a large spot size (22x35mm) with a vacuum-assisted technology that allows larger areas of the body, such as legs and back, to be treated more quickly and with less pain than previously possible with the standard 9x9mm spot.
Sun exposure for 6 weeks prior to and after treatment must be avoided. Shaving a day or two prior to treatment is encouraged, but waxing and/or tweezing should be avoided for 6 weeks prior to treatment. White, grey, red or very light colored hair will not absorb the laser light and cannot be effectively treated with this modality.
You may schedule a free consultation with one of our nurses to see if you are a candidate for this procedure.
